It’s truly the meat supermarket of the north east of England as you’ll find all your meat needs in this place. The price is affordable and cheaper compared to other places. They truly deserve the 5 star rating. Excellent service delivery and quality staff. I’ll surely recommend.

I visited last week and then again today.
Wide range of fresh meat available.
Lovely delicatessen counter with cooked meats, sandwiches, cheeses, chutney, jams.
Bakery counter with a lovely selection of fresh cakes/pies available and bread fresh each day.
I bought rump steak last week and this week and it was absolutely beautiful, couldn't fault it.
I also bought top side of beef for slow cooker which was just as beautiful.
Prices are very very reasonable.
You can get all of your fresh produce there as there is a fruit/ vegetable section.
Fresh eggs available.
Also a fish counter.
Plenty of car parking available.
Restaurant also next door.
Well worth a visit for fresh produce and stocking up your freezer.

I visited this business on 01/10/24. I purchased a forequarter of beef which had been stripped off the bone in different cuts. The displayed weight was 55.35kg at £4.89/kg. My assumption was that that was the total weight of my purchase. However, when I got home and weighed the meat myself, it was about 35kg!
I immediately rang them to report this, and they admitted that the weight displayed was inclusive of the bone!
I pointed out to them that this was false advertising, especially as I wasn't given this bone that had been included in the price I paid.
They admitted that they could have done better by making it clear that the displayed weight was inclusive of the removed bone.
They, however, denied that they owed me any compensation for false advertising.
I just want to put this out there for other unsuspecting customers like me!

The cafe is terrible but the shop is alright. It can be abit more expensive than the super markets but everything is fresh not like supermarkets where there Swede is tiny and very hard to cut. I got my veg from here and bought a massive swede and I cut it in half with no trouble that's how fresh the veg is.
I love how they do dog food the tripe and beef and the pack of 4 pig nose for 99p my dogs go crazy for this.
Its fresh but its a busy car park always packed but yes I would go again and I think other people would like it alot more than myself.

Great variety of meat, fish, vegetables and fruit. Bread and cheese are there to, also not as varied. The prices were rised, but are still very competitive. These large family(?) butchers seem to have find a way to carry good traditions to modern times.

You can buy something that is rarely seen in the supermarkets: ox tongue, marrow bones, pig and lamb hearts, tails and ribs, etc. Fancy huge whole legs -who and how cooks them I wonder? Orders for the large barbeque parties can be made over the phone or inside, in advance.

I like the locally grown fruit and vegetables are sold at very good prices in season. Waxed apples from around the world are still fresher than in some supermarkets. I like the packs of herbs being generous.

The cheese section changed about a year ago for the worse. Cooked meat section is still there but, again, less varied as before.

The fish section (is it another business renting a counter in Bolam?) is excellent. It improved from the previous people there, who used to remove price labels from view for some unclear reason. Pleasant to see new young shop assistant being very helpfull and proud of his work. The prices vary. You can buy live mussles and oysters. Also last time I was given 7 days bodeline shellfish without warning. It cooked fine, but I still think they should have mentioned.

My concern is hygene, especially in the meat section, because the packaging isn't always strong enough. Cling film is torn too often and meat is exposed for cross-contamination. Make sure you wash your hand and bags because there will be blood spills. On the other hand the products don't seem to stay on the shelves for long, so are fresh. Hand gel is there too. And I never heard of anyone poisoned there, so not reducing stars.

The Full Monty canteen, probably named after the great movie, is adjacent to the shop, on the left. I think someone mentioned a lot of the bus drivers lunch there. It is very basic, the food is simple, but very good and inexpensive. Disabled access.

Toilets are in the canteen.

There is a petrol station and large Sainsbury's (i.e. for milk and yogurt if you are buying for a week in one go).

Also, there is a large park further down the dual carrige way.

First thoughts look great. Plenty choice of meat and good prices. The quality of the meat is shocking, had some ribeye steaks in the fridge for 1 day and they’ve gone off badly (bought on the 23rd). Same with the mince, topside beef, and other steaks I bought bearing in mind the sell by dates all have 28th on them. Thought I’d found my new butchers but don’t fancy wasting my money. Would not recommend.
